Draft prospect Wiseman may not be too keen on Wolves

Former Memphis center James Wiseman brings the ball up the court vs. Illinois-Chicago.

It’s hard to know what the Minnesota Timberwolves will do with the No. 1 overall draft pick, but it seems James Wiseman is hoping one of their decisions is not to call his name.

Wiseman is a 7-foot-1 center out of Memphis and considered a top-three prospect.

“They want to get some face time with Wiseman but the Wiseman camp is wondering, ‘OK, is James really a fit there in Minnesota? Can he coexist with Karl-Anthony Towns? Does that make sense?'” KSTP-TV’s Darren Wolfson said on his podcast.

“So that meeting may eventually take place presumably in Miami where James is training. But I know there’s been some hiccups in the wolves trying to line up some face time with James Wiseman but they are trying to use at least most if not all, of their 10 draft visits.”

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst seconded that notion on the podcast.

‘“Wiseman does not want to come to Minnesota because Karl Towns is there,” Windhorst said. “From what I understand, Wiseman doesn’t even want to do anything with the Wolves.”

Towns, 24, is the Timberwolves’ center and center of everything they are trying to build. So unless they want to go with a modern-day version of the Twin Towers, it’s hard to envision Wiseman and the Wolves being a fit.

Timberwolves executive VP Sachin Gupta recently made it sound as if a decision has already been made.

“We feel pretty good about where we’re at. We’re ready to pick,” Gupta said. “There is still information flowing in from different prospects. The NBA is doing a great job trying to salvage the draft combine process and pre-draft process. … But we feel really good about where we’re at the at the top of the draft and are ready to pick if we have to.”
