Knicks sign lottery pick Toppin to rookie contract

Former Dayton forward Obi Toppin is a projected top-10 draft pick.

The New York Knicks have signed rookie power forward Obi Toppin to his rookie contract, the team announced.

Toppin was selected with the No. 8 overall draft pick out of Dayton. He will wear No. 1 with the Knicks.

“The former Dayton forward will earn $4,862,040 in his rookie year and about $22.1MM over the first four years of his NBA career, unless he accepts a deal worth less than the maximum allowable 120% of the rookie scale,” wrote Alex Kirschenbaum of Hoops Rumors.

Toppin, 22, is 6-foot-9 and averaged 22.0 points and 7.5 rebounds with the Flyers last season. He also shot better than 60 percent from the field in leading Dayton to a school-record 29 wins.

Toppin is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y.
