Batum to sign with Clippers after clearing waivers

Free agent forward Nicolas Batum is reportedly headed to the Clippers.

Charlotte Hornets wing Nicolas Batum will sign with the Los Angeles Clippers upon clearing waivers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Hornets are waiving Batum, per reports.

According to the Charlotte Observer, the Hornets intend to waive and stretch the $27.1 million that Batum was due to make this season. He picked up his contract option earlier this month.

He will become an unrestricted free agent 48 hours after being waived, assuming no one claims him.

Batum, 31, appeared in just 22 games last season and averaged 3.6 points. He was sidelined early in the year with a fractured finger.

The Hornets recently agreed to a four-year, $120 million contract with small forward Gordon Hayward. There has been reports they may be open to a sing-and-trade with the Boston Celtics, Hayward’s former team.

Training camp tips off Tuesday.
