Cavaliers preseason begins Dec. 12 at home vs. Pacers

Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton drives to the basket vs. the defense of Pacers forward Domantas Sabonis.

It’s (almost) basketball time at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Actually, the exact date is Dec. 12, when the Cavaliers finally get something resembling some real live competition again. That is the day they tip off the four-game preseason, at home, against the Indiana Pacers.

It almost feels surreal, doesn’t it? It probably does for Cavs fans, who haven’t seen a game since the middle of March, when the NBA suspended the 2019-20 season.

Now, the Cavs are getting another try to start again — after being omitted from the league’s Disney restart over the summer.

There are four preseason games on the schedule in all, but only two opponents. The Cavs will also host the Pacers on Dec. 14, followed by two games in New York against the Knicks (Dec. 16 and 18).

Training camp is set to tip off Dec. 1, with the regular season slated for Dec. 22.
