Suns acquire Paul, trade Oubre Jr., Rubio to Thunder

Thunder point guard Chris Paul brings the ball up the court during a game against the Nuggets.

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Chris Paul now be known as Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul.

That’s because the Suns and Thunder have finalized a trade that will send Paul to Phoenix, as first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

In return, the Thunder will receive forward Kelly Oubre Jr., point guard Ricky Rubio, shooting guard Ty Jerome, guard Jalen Lecque and a 2022 first-round pick, Wojnarowski reported. The Suns are also receiving Thunder shooting guard Abdel Nadar as part of the trade.

Paul, 35, is coming off one of the best seasons of his career — leading the Thunder to an inspirational run to the playoffs in a season in which everyone assumed they would tank.

He now joins shooting guard Devin Booker and center Deandre Ayton as part of a core that the Suns GM James Jones is building for a run to the playoffs. The Suns went 8-0 on the Disney campus after the NBA restart, just missing the postseason.
