Timberwolves land Rubio, exchange picks in trade with Thunder

Former Suns guard drives to the basket vs. the Mavericks.

The Minnesota Timberwolves took Georgia shooting guard Anthony Edwards with the No. 1 overall pick, but that wasn’t their only move on draft day.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Timberwolves also acquired point guard Ricky Rubio, as well as the 25th and 28th overall picks, from the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Nos. 25 and 28 picks. The Thunder landed the Timberwolves’ No. 17 pick in the deal, Wojnarowski added.

Rubio’s career began as a lottery pick with the Timberwolves back in 2009. He was traded to the Thunder from the Phoenix Suns in the Chris Paul deal last week.
